  72. The AMQP backend was not a good default because often the users were
  73. not consuming the results, resulting in thousands of queues.
  74. While the queues can be configured to expire if left unused, it was not
  75. possible to enable this by default because this was only available in
  76. recent RabbitMQ versions (2.1.1+)
  77. With this change enabling a result backend will be a conscious choice,
  78. which will hopefully lead the user to read the documentation and be aware
  79. of any common pitfalls with the particular backend.
  80. The default backend is now a dummy backend
  81. (:class:`celery.backends.base.DisabledBackend`). Saving state is simply an
  82. noop operation, and AsyncResult.wait(), .result, .state, etc. will raise
  83. a :exc:`NotImplementedError` telling the user to configure the result backend.
  84. For help choosing a backend please see :ref:`task-result-backends`.
  85. If you depend on the previous default which was the AMQP backend, then

  98. * Automatic connection pool support.
  99. The pool is used by everything that requires a broker connection. For
  100. example applying tasks, sending broadcast commands, retrieving results
  101. with the AMQP result backend, and so on.
  102. The pool is disabled by default, but you can enable it by configuring the
  103. :setting:`BROKER_POOL_LIMIT` setting::
  104. BROKER_POOL_LIMIT = 10
  105. A limit of 10 means a maximum of 10 simultaneous connections can co-exist.
  106. Only a single connection will ever be used in a single-thread
  107. environment, but in a concurrent environment (threads, greenlets, etc., but
  108. not processes) when the limit has been exceeded, any try to acquire a
  109. connection will block the thread and wait for a connection to be released.
  110. This is something to take into consideration when choosing a limit.
  111. A limit of :const:`None` or 0 means no limit, and connections will be
  112. established and closed every time.
  113. * Introducing Chords (taskset callbacks).
  114. A chord is a task that only executes after all of the tasks in a taskset
  115. has finished executing. It's a fancy term for "taskset callbacks"
  116. adopted from
  117. `Cω <http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/cambridge/projects/comega/>`_).
  118. It works with all result backends, but the best implementation is
  119. currently provided by the Redis result backend.

  497. and quirks: notably issues with tasks and decorators, and name
  498. collisions in keyword arguments for the unaware.
  499. It wasn't easy to find a way to deprecate the magic keyword arguments,
  500. but we think this is a solution that makes sense and it will not
  501. have any adverse effects for existing code.
  502. The path to a magic keyword argument free world is:

  504. can now be found in `celery.task`.

  642. This means events will not be stored until there is a consumer, and the
  643. events will be gone as soon as the consumer stops. Also it means there

  645. The routing key of an event is the type of event (e.g. `worker.started`,
  646. `worker.heartbeat`, `task.succeeded`, etc. This means a consumer can
  647. filter on specific types, to only be alerted of the events it cares about.
  648. Each consumer will create a unique queue, meaning it is in effect a
  649. broadcast exchange.
  650. This opens up a lot of possibilities, for example the workers could listen
  651. for worker events to know what workers are in the neighborhood, and even
  652. restart workers when they go down (or use this information to optimize
  653. tasks/autoscaling).

  655. The event exchange has been renamed from "celeryevent" to "celeryev"
  656. so it does not collide with older versions.
  657. If you would like to remove the old exchange you can do so

  1044. lets you take "pictures" of the clusters state at regular intervals.
  1045. This can then be stored in a database to generate statistics
  1046. with, or even monitoring over longer time periods.
  1047. django-celery now comes with a Celery monitor for the Django
  1048. Admin interface. To use this you need to run the django-celery
  1049. snapshot camera, which stores snapshots to the database at configurable
  1050. intervals. See :ref:`monitoring-nodjango` for information about using

  1052. To use the Django admin monitor you need to do the following:

  1076. which has the same syntax as the task rate limit strings (`"200/m"`,
  1077. `"10/s"`, `"1/h",` etc).
  1078. For the Django camera case, this rate limit can be used to control
  1079. how often the snapshots are written to the database, and the frequency
  1080. used to control how often the thread wakes up to check if there's
  1081. anything new.
  1082. The rate limit is off by default, which means it will take a snapshot
  1083. for every :option:`--frequency` seconds.

  1483. The scheduler sleeps between iterations so it doesn't consume too much CPU.
  1484. It keeps a list of the scheduled items sorted by time, at each iteration
  1485. it sleeps for the remaining time of the item with the nearest deadline.
  1486. If there are no eta tasks it will sleep for a minimum amount of time, one
  1487. second by default.
  1488. A bug sneaked in here, making it sleep for one second for every task
  1489. that was scheduled. This has been fixed, so now it should move
  1490. tasks like hot knife through butter.
  1491. In addition a new setting has been added to control the minimum sleep
