  17. The AMQP backend was not a good default because often the users were
  18. not consuming the results, resulting in thousands of queues.
  19. While the queues can be configured to expire if left unused, it was not
  20. possible to enable this by default because this was only available in
  21. recent RabbitMQ versions (2.1.1+)
  22. With this change enabling a result backend will be a conscious choice,
  23. which will hopefully lead the user to read the documentation and be aware
  24. of any common pitfalls with the particular backend.
  25. The default backend is now a dummy backend
  26. (:class:`celery.backends.base.DisabledBackend`). Saving state is simply an
  27. noop operation, and AsyncResult.wait(), .result, .state, etc will raise
  28. a :exc:`NotImplementedError` telling the user to configure the result backend.

  33. * Automatic connection pool support.
  34. The pool is used by everything that requires a broker connection. For
  35. example applying tasks, sending broadcast commands, retrieving results
  36. with the AMQP result backend, and so on.
  37. The pool is disabled by default, but you can enable it by configuring the
  38. :setting:`BROKER_POOL_LIMIT` setting::
  39. BROKER_POOL_LIMIT = 10
  40. A limit of 10 means a maximum of 10 simultaneous connections can co-exist.
  41. Only a single connection will ever be used in a single-thread
  42. environment, but in a concurrent environment (threads, greenlets, etc., but
  43. not processes) when the limit has been exceeded, any try to acquire a
  44. connection will block the thread and wait for a connection to be released.
  45. This is something to take into consideration when choosing a limit.
  46. A limit of :const:`None` or 0 means no limit, and connections will be
  47. established and closed every time.
  48. * Introducing Chords (taskset callbacks).
  49. A chord is a task that only executes after all of the tasks in a taskset
  50. has finished executing. It's a fancy term for "taskset callbacks"
  51. adopted from
  52. `Cω <http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/cambridge/projects/comega/>`_).
  53. It works with all result backends, but the best implementation is
  54. currently provided by the Redis result backend.
  55. Here's an example chord::

  432. but we think this is a solution that makes sense and it will not
  433. have any adverse effects for existing code.
  434. The path to a magic keyword argument free world is:

  579. filter on specific types, to only be alerted of the events it cares about.
  580. Each consumer will create a unique queue, meaning it is in effect a
  581. broadcast exchange.
  582. This opens up a lot of possibilities, for example the workers could listen
  583. for worker events to know what workers are in the neighborhood, and even
  584. restart workers when they go down (or use this information to optimize
  585. tasks/autoscaling).

  587. The event exchange has been renamed from "celeryevent" to "celeryev"
  588. so it does not collide with older versions.
  589. If you would like to remove the old exchange you can do so

  976. lets you take "pictures" of the clusters state at regular intervals.
  977. This can then be stored in a database to generate statistics
  978. with, or even monitoring over longer time periods.
  979. django-celery now comes with a Celery monitor for the Django
  980. Admin interface. To use this you need to run the django-celery
  981. snapshot camera, which stores snapshots to the database at configurable
  982. intervals. See :ref:`monitoring-nodjango` for information about using
  983. this monitor if you're not using Django.
  984. To use the Django admin monitor you need to do the following:

  1010. For the Django camera case, this rate limit can be used to control
  1011. how often the snapshots are written to the database, and the frequency
  1012. used to control how often the thread wakes up to check if there's
  1013. anything new.

  1417. it sleeps for the remaining time of the item with the nearest deadline.
  1418. If there are no eta tasks it will sleep for a minimum amount of time, one
  1419. second by default.
  1420. A bug sneaked in here, making it sleep for one second for every task
  1421. that was scheduled. This has been fixed, so now it should move
  1422. tasks like hot knife through butter.
  1423. In addition a new setting has been added to control the minimum sleep
